An independent test for both voice and data on the 26 most popular handsets in the Nordic region was carried out by Danish Energy Agency and the Nordic telecommunications administrations which proves that not all prominent flagship handset are as good as they sound, especially Apple devices even with their newest handsets struggling at the bottom of the list.

Microsoft's mid-range Lumia 640 and Lumia 650 devices scored very well for both voice and data signal strength proving that Microsoft still maintained the technical proficiency that Nokia was known to exhibit in their phone hardwares. Well, it seems Microsoft’s Lumia 950 did not benefit from that Nokia expertise.

Professor Gert Frølund Pedersen, from the Aalborg University, notes that some phones need a signal hundred times stronger than others, and Apple in particular had problems, incredibly even with their newest handsets and suggested that phones should be labelled with their antenna performance, much like appliances have energy efficiency ratings.
